Kathy has been involved with horses since she and her husband bought their farm in 1996. Although she always loved horses growing up, being in a military family did not offer any opportunities for that connection.
The farm meant real connection with horses was possible. What also followed was her love of learning. She became a student of riding, stable management, and horsemanship. She was particularly drawn to dressage where she studied and competed for a time. Competition though really was not for her, it was the art of riding and the connection with the horse that was the most important.
As life challenges presented themselves, the death of her mother, her youngest son struggling with addiction, and the loss of her corporate job, Kathy found herself simply going to the horses. Sitting on a rock or a chair, the horses would come in and hold space. It was her therapy. She knew there was something powerful and profound about this. What was this connection?
She discovered what this “was” when she visited a friend practicing equine assisted learning with a beautiful old mare and a young man. It became a sudden “knowing” or intuition that THIS is what she is supposed to do. I know what this is.
She researched programs and decided on the FEEL® program based on its attunement to horse and human emotions, strong focus on the horse as a partner, the shamanic ceremony brought into the works, and the comprehensiveness of the program.
She graduated in June 2022, launched her practice soon thereafter, and in October 2023 she Completed the Advanced FEEL® Program
She, her husband Jeff, 9 horses, 2 dogs, and a myriad of barn cats, live on their farm outside of the village of Merrickville, Ontario CANADA where she runs her equine practice ( and rides her horses as well!)
She is currently writing a book about her journey as a mother navigating adoption, addiction and finding healing and lifes purpose through horses.
